For whatever reason, these are more effective than zicam for me. I use them at the beginning of a cold, and often, I’m feeling better the next day.

I was told about this product and how helpful it is reducing the duration of a cold. When I seen this package deal, from Amazon, I thought it was a good time to try it out. I found it to be true during my cold. I may not have gone by the total instructions but I did feel that my cold symptoms didn’t last as long. I would recommend this product to my friends and family.

This, like all homeopathic remedies is a complete fraud. But don’t take my word for it. Look at the list of “active” ingredients and make up your own mind:

Allium Cepa HPUS – 3C (Relieves sneezing and runny nose)

“Allium Cepa” is more commonly known as the ordinary onion you find in your kitchen. The 3C means that if you took 1oz of onion, and add arround 7,000 gallons of water, then take a drop of that. That’s how much there would be in this product.

Apis Mellifica HPUS – 6C (Relieves nasal congestion)

For those who aren’t up on their taxonomy terminology, “Apis Mellifica” is honey bee. That’s, right they take a whole honey bee, grind it up and dilute it with an insane amount of water stick a drop of it in this pill.

Belladonna HPUS – 6C (Relieves colds with a sudden onset)

This one is great. More commonly known as “deadly nightshade” here is an excerpt from wikipedia:

“Belladonna is one of the most toxic plants found in the Western hemisphere…The consumption of two to five berries by children and ten to twenty berries by adults can be lethal. The root of the plant is generally the most toxic part, though this can vary from one specimen to another. Ingestion of a single leaf of the plant can be fatal to an adult.”

But don’t worry, it’s only present in very tiny tiny quantities.

Gelsemium Sempervirens HPUS – 6C Relieves headaches associated with colds

    Another lovely poisonous plant:

“All parts of this plant contain the toxic strychnine-related alkaloids gelsemine and gelseminine and should not be consumed. The sap may cause skin irritation in sensitive individuals. Children, mistaking this flower for honeysuckle, have been poisoned by sucking the nectar from the flower. The nectar is also toxic to honeybees, and causes brood death when gathered by the bees.”

Kali Bichromicum HPUS – 6C (Relieves nasal discharge)

This is actually a fancy name for a chemical compound called “potasium dichromate”. Here is what wikipedia says about it:

“As with other CrVI compounds, potassium dichromate is carcinogenic and should be handled with gloves and appropriate health and safety protection. The compound is also corrosive and exposure may produce severe eye damage or blindness.”

Nux Vomica HPUS – 3C Relieves sneezing attacks

Better known as the “Strychnine tree”. That’s right the tree we make rat poison out of: “It is a major source of the highly poisonous alkaloids strychnine and brucine, derived from the seeds inside the tree’s round, green to orange fruit. The seeds contain approximately 1.5% strychnine, and the dried blossoms contain 1.023%. However, the tree’s bark also contains poisonous compounds, including brucine.

There are a few more equally ludicrous ingredients, but I think you get the idea. To be clear, I am not claiming this thing is toxic in any way. Like all homeopathic remedies, the actual ingredients are hardly ever present in the final product (or present in ridiculously small amounts). I’m simply translating the scientific latin-sounding names of the ingredients so that clear-thinking people can judge for themselves how nutty these homeopathic remedies are.

I am not writing this review to try to convince the hard-core believers in homeopathy, but rather to inform those who don’t really know what homeopathy is all about. I am tired of people thinking homeopathy is synonymous with all-natural or herbal remedies. These things are nothing more than sugar pills, they contain no real active ingredients in any significant amount (if they did they would be highly poisonous). To the extent it works for some people, it is attributable to the placebo effect. Save yourself (…) and try some honey and cinnamon instead (it’ll be just as effective as a placebo). Or better yet, take some real cold medicine, and get some real relief.
